Bellflower High School, 7-12 (Public)

I attended Bellflower High School and just recently grduated. I will admit when I first started attending BHS I wasn't very happy with some of the teachers. They didn't get the message they were trying to teach across very well and my grades were slipping. In my 10th grade year our new principal Mr. Joseph Perry stepped up to the plate. Since he came to our school he has implemented many things that have helped our school. Now when students litter they get citations from on campus sherriff's. Discipline is always taken care of in a timely manner with fair consequences and the administration isn't unfair in their treatment of all students. I will miss some of the teachers who aren't going to be there, but the teacher's I have met in my life at BHS have encouraged me to go for what I want.

I am currently a senior at BHS. i think this school is improving a lot. after Mr. Perry showed up there has been numerous amounts of changes. rules are being enforced more and education is becoming a bigger focus of students. As a student i know many other students who do care about there grades. all the other students who seem to lack that drive most likely is becasue they dont have someone at home telling them how important an education is. this school is really great has many dedicated teachers and a really good set of administrators. i think that if every one would just put there part then this school would get pretty far.

I am a former student of Bellflower High (Class of 1990). I have lived in Bellflower for many years and formed a family here. Through the years I heard from other parents how unsafe and scary my former school had become. When it came time for my eldest to attend 7th grade, my first intention was to move but I decided to give it a chance. Presently, my son is in 10th grade and my daughter is in 8th. Both of them have experienced nothing but quality education. The availabiliy of academic programs such as AP, Honors and Avid classes not to mention sports and music makes this school great. I only wish that they would make classrooms as large as in the 90's, You have the space! The test scores do not matter since some students do no try their best. I believe teachers should enforce parent involvement. Kudos!

I have been attending Bellflower High for a couple of years and it really isn't as bad as it may seem. It ultimately depends on whether that specific student is motivated to learn or not. If the student cares about getting good grades then Bellflower High School will be a good education for them because they offer AP classes and are able to be around students who actually care to learn. Through hard work it is possible to go to Ivy League. Two guys in the class of 06 went to Yale and Stanford! From my experience, the regular classes are below average simply because everybody slacks off, but if you're student attends honors and AP classes there shouldn't be too much of a problem. The school's test scores are low only because there are plenty of students who bubble in whatever, which falsely represents the school quality of education.

My child has been attending bhs as a 7th grader as of 2006. Iam concerned to see my child attend a non middle only-school. I have been observant and involved with my childs teachers so far. I know this school has new admin and will continue to support them. I know for a fact that parent involvement is crucial for the support not only to my child but for the teachers. I understand that they have their hands full teaching these many students p/day. As a parent i also acknowledge that teachers aren't responsible for teaching our kids manners or morals or proper behavior,nor should they endure lack of respect from the students. In my opinion bhs has issues to improve however, we as parents have them to. We can't expect for the schools to work well in-dependent of our participation. Get involved in any way you can!

As a recent former student, Bellflower is a horrible school with teachers that are not motivated. There are few exceptional teachers. Bellflower is very diverse and that makes it very diffilcult to teach students. The new principal is making many changes so if your children are young and the current principal stays, then hopefully Bellflower will be turned around. He imposes stronger rules and regulations.

My daughter attended this school in the 9th grade and although she did have an overall positive experience some of the things that went on in the classrooms and on campus were pretty scary. Some of the teachers had little or no control of their students. However, the administration and teachers that dedicate themselves are very dedicated. I believe if parents were to become more involved, work hand in hand with the teachers instead of against them and more importantly make sure they hold their children accountable for their actions than this school would improve greatly.

Love the school- very neat and clean and great teachers.

This school provides a well rounded Education for the students. The academics are there as well as the Extracurricular activites. The staff is always there to provide help to the students and parents.

With a solid faculty/administration present, this is a school that doesn't receive as much credit as it should.

I am not a parent but I go to this school and I will graduate in year 2008. This school has a great faculty and most students are caring and very generous. I would also like to add that 1 of our coolest teachers is retiring...Mr. Hammer. There are many oppurtunity's at this school and many counselors that can help with any problem that you or your child may have. So if you are having 2nd thoughts about this school you haven't met any of the great peole at this school.

I'm not a parent, I attended BHS 1991-1995, after having moved here from an European country. Most of my teachers were intelligent, committed individuals, although the lack of determination on the side of the students and the lack of participation from the parents did not promote a high quality learning experience. Extracuricular activities were plentiful, and were a great addition to the academia. Compared to other high schools around the nation, I would rate the building appearance and safety an average, although major construction was being implemented in my last year at BHS. The school counselor at the time was extremely helpful, and supported me in my quest of taking college classes in tenth grade in order to graduate a year early. I'll always be grateful for that! AP classes were offered, which helped pave the road for college.

i went to the school when i was in 7th grade. i felt alone and very disappointed in the schools way of dealing with problems. when i went to bellflower highschool i had numerous occasions of getting into fights with others students. the teachers did nothing whatsoever. i know my daughter will not attend this school for the same reason i left.

I started at Bellflower in the 7th grade, and went on to graduate there. The teachers that I met in my time there all helped as much as they did, with a handful making an impact on my life after school. The real problem was not with teachers, but with admin. Most of them don't care if you need help, or need direction, they seem they only care about the paycheck and making themselves look good. There are many things that could be changed and from what I'm seeing at this time with a sister going there at the moment is that things are changing, but how soon is the question.

My child started in the 7th grade at this school and will go to the 11 th. With my experience as an interested parent in my child's education, I have found that there are some teachers that care and some that seem to be there only for the paycheck. The teachers that care about their students will keep you updated on your child's progress and then you have the ones that never return your calls, never seem to have time for a conference or don't have a clue to the subject they are teaching. The school administrative staff is very helpful and considerate. I hope to see more positive changes in the future. My child will graduate from this school and will attend his reunion when the time comes.

Our intitial experiences with the school were not very positive when my son entered the Middle School program in 7th grade amongst a huge campus as a minority - both European American and Christian. However, we found the Principal of the Middle School a fair man, the teacher's interested in the overall picture of educating youth and the campus pretty secure-except for his never feeling safe enough to enter the bathroom's at any time alone. During out son's first year of HS, we were delighted by the encouragement that his teacher's consistantly gave him, and are grateful every day for the Instrumental Music Program and how it has radically changed and challenged our son. Though we had suffered the loss of our principal recently, it seems as though the ship has remained functioning and intact. Though, there are daily reminder's of how neglectful parent's have been in their children's lives...through negative behavior, but the school seems to be doing a pretty good job.
