This school is good one, not the best but I am satisfied with kindergarden so far .But KOC is something, which really needs to change. When I am picking up my child "teachers" are sitting in one spot, they can't see kids on the other side of the playground. When sth will happen, I will be first to sign, that this is because of staff laziness. One leader, which is in charge barely moves through the day and has a such a bad attitude. There are some people, which are really playing with kids and having fun. This after and before program cost parent a money. As far as I compared with schools in Carlsbad it's expensive.I wish that management has better attitude, and be more positive.

We moved here last year and are a bit disappointed with the Kindergarten curriculum. The kids do more preschool stuff like dancing and singing, and are not very challenged. The children use inappropriate language for such young kids and are trying to kiss each other at recess. Gross. We are moving our daughter next year to San Elijo Hills if possible. THUMBS DOWN.

Discovery Elementary is an amazing elementary school in San Marcos, California. The principal and staff are incredible passionate about what they do every day, and it shows with the increase in test scores over the past year. I feel very fortunate to have both my children enrolled in such an incredible school environment! Thank you!

The teachers are fantastic. The administration is fantastic. The students who go there love to learn. This is what makes it the greatest school!

I agree, this is a good school, but children are not disciplined well. The chaos in the AM for drop off is terrible. Balls flying every which way while children try and line up. My daughter got a black eye from standing in line and getting smacked by an errant football. Footballs belong on the field, not in the line for class. It's the chaos and poor attitudes by some children that need to be curbed. Academically, it's on par with SM district. Teachers and administration seem to care a great deal for the students, so that's a huge plus!

This school is overall a GREAT place for children to grow and learn. The school could use a little more discipline with the children..too many are getting away with things they never would have 5 years ago! Too many catering to parents wants rather than the childs Learning needs! but over all a great place

sadly this school has just gone down each year. After school programs have hardly any enrollment. Music programs (individually paid for) have little enrollment. The PE program is a joke (they don't include running into their curriculum) but do stretches and play frisbee and chinese jump rope. High staff turnover rate and numerous unhappy parents (just hang out on the blacktop after school starts for all the latest gossip). Compared to many other schools in the SMUSD, this one is by far on the list of the bottom 5.

My son spent his elementary school years at Discovery Elementary. Recess got progressively restrictive for the kids. After lunch, the kids have to line up to wait for all the other kids to finish before they can go play.

Dicovery Elementary is a fantastic school! The principal leadership and teacher quality is more then I could have ever imagined a public school could provide for my son. The school strives to bring the best out in each student, and creates a positive community for the children and their families. As a parent I could not be happier with a school and the all of the opportunities to jump right in and get involved with my sons' education. Thank you Discovery!!!!!!

Principal and Teachers main focus is giving their students the best education possible. Discovery School is a very family oriented. I know now I made the right decision in sending my child to this school.

We've been so happy with this school. Everyone shows an amazing amount of commitment and enthusiasm. The school does a lot to promote a sense of community--and it really makes our neighborhood feel like a small town. My daughter loves going to school here!

I feel that Discovery Elementary is a great school with caring teachers and a very high average of parent participation. I feel fortunate to have a school where I feel free to discuss things with our teacher and principal.

Good school however, caters to non english speaking students thus taking time away from english speaking students. A lot of good teachers leaving to follow former principal.

The quality of teaching is exceptional. Most teachers have many years of experience or are mentored by someone who has a lot of experience. Communication to parents is great. The school itself is located in a nice, safe location. The facilities are beautiful, including a fabulous library.

I consider this school to have an excellent academic program. There is a great deal of parent involvement and fundraising throughout the year. Children are given music, art and sports lessons. Excellent extracurricular activities are available after school.

My Kids attended both Poway and San Diego City schools. After moving to San Marcos and experiencing this school, my husband and I are in love with the school, office staff and mostly the Teachers. Great communication between Parent and Teacher. My 5th grader will be going to middle school and my 8 year old into 4th grade. We will miss the 5th grade staff very much but are excited to join the middle school family.

This is an example of an elementary school doing things well: Continuous progress, many great teachers, and discipline. They even promote patriotism, imagine that. This is as close to 'the way school was when we were kids' as I think we can get in today's politically correct world. Great! (SMHS and SMMS need to take a few pointers)
